Locating a Breeder

Once you have decided on what breed you wish to own, you need to locate somewhere to purchase it. If you are planning on purchasing from a pet store, please read the Breeder vs. Pet Store article for a comparison of pet purchases from pet stores and breeders. If you choose to purchase from a breeder, there are many helpful websites to get you started on locating a breeder.

The following are a few helpful websites for locating breeders of any breed and a brief description of each site:

American Rabbit Breeders
Association (ARBA)

http://www.arba.net

The “Breed Photos and National Club Links” link from their homepage includes photos of each breed recognized in the US. Click on the photo to visit the national specialty club's website for that breed. Each national specialty club will either have a breeder contact list or contact information for the club secretary. If a photo page does not link to another site, then the national specialty club of that breed does not have a website. However, there is a link at the bottom of the page that provides a list of contact information for the secretary of the national specialty club of each breed.

M & E Rabbitry

This website provides a user friendly search for rabbit breeders that gives you the option of searching by either breed or state. The site also includes a Classified Ads section, which may prove helpful for finding bunnies, cages, feeders, etc.
